The Oregon Trail Network

The Blue Mountain Heritage TrailTrail Guide

The  Blue Mountain Heritage Trail is located in The Beautiful Blue Mountain Range of Eastern Oregon. It is comprised of several forest service districts  and meanders throughout the back country with its beginning near the Historical Railroading town of Prairie City. It elevates its way through Dixie Summit, toward Austin Junction and onto the Historical logging town of Bates Oregon. The Gold Mining Town of Sumpter and the Sumpter Valley Railroad are just a few more miles up the trail. This is just the beginning of the vast system of The Blue Mountain Heritage Trail Network. The trail moves on to encompass Anthony Lakes and Lagrande, while looping deep into the North East remote sections of Wallowa County. The trail circles its way south into The Hells Canyon Recreation area, through Halfway, Richland and Baker City, Oregon.

The trail is situated in the primitive sections of the Elkhorn Mountains, The Hells Canyon Recreation Area, The Eagle Cap Wilderness, The North Fork Umatilla Wilderness, The Wenaha-Tucannon Wilderness, The Strawberry Mountain Wilderness and The North Fork John Day Wilderness. The BMHT incorporates the Northern  counties of Oregon including Grant County, Union County, Umatilla County, Baker County and Wallowa County.

The trail has been designed  for hiker and equestrian supports. It is approximately 2,000 miles long and is primarily used for foot and pack travel. Vehicle access is provided at the beginning and the end of each trail segment. Supply points are accessable where you may replenish your food and camping supplies through merchants along the trail. Packages may be sent ahead through the united states postal service for your convenience. You can locate these addresses on our website.

We  have  located  a number of trail resources for your convenience including remote lodging and cabins for rent, horseback riding and boarding services, gaurd station rentals, RV parks, trailheads, shuttle services,  gold mining information, four wheeling adventures, touring services, restaurants and much more.   All participants of this network are convenient to the trail system or just a phone call away. Some of our sponsors provide a relay base location number for services only. So please be sure to leave them a message when you call. Enjoy The Journey In The Blue Mountains!
